Christmas is an ideal time for spending some time baking with your children. Not only will it provide you with an opportunity to spend time together, but it will also help you make some inexpensive Christmas gifts.
Christmas tree brownies are a fabulous and easy treat to make with your children. To complete this project you will need brownies, peppermint sticks or candy canes and green icing. To make it fancier, you could also purchase some small circular shaped candies or sprinkles.
Start by preparing a tray of your favorite kind of brownies in the usual fashion. Once the brownies are cool, help your children to cut the brownies into long triangles in a Christmas tree shape. Once the brownies are cut, insert peppermint sticks into the middle of the bottom of the brownies. If you do not have peppermint sticks, you can break the top off of candy canes and use those.
Once you have the peppermint stick inserted, use your tube of green icing and draw lines back and forth diagonally on your triangle brownie, to make a Z pattern on the brownie. If you do not have a tube of green icing, then add some green food coloring to white icing and use a plastic bag for a piping bag.
If you like, once the brownie is iced, you can use some small circular shaped candies or sprinkles and your children can place them as “ornaments” on the brownies, so that each “tree” can by unique and special.
This is a great way to spend some time with your kids during the holidays, they will ask to do it every year, and when you’re all done, you’ll have some really special brownies to give out to friends and family.
